MoLo
SustainabilityMoLo: this is the name of the new architecture-infrastructure project within the West Gate area of MIND (Milano Innovation District). MoLo will be an infrastructural hub and gateway for those who arrive to MIND from Rho, as well as a focal point for those who promenade along the Decumano and a backdrop of greenery and pedestrian networks that link the district to the surrounding context.
The new landmark, once the site of Pavilion Zero at the 2015 Milan Expo, is the Mobility and Logistics Hub, a seven-storey service structure with five levels dedicated to car parking as well as one underground level that will provide 1500 parking spaces.
It will be a focal point due to its mixed-use interior functions: the energy center and retail area at the ground floor; the sixth floor and southern portion of levels 1-4, are workspaces intended for offices and laboratories. The MoLo building is a node, connecting actions and spaces within the urban fabric that weaves throughout the MIND project.
There is a public sphere within MIND, the common ground that drapes pedestrian walkways and seeps into various buildings, integrating public and private functions of MIND and its buildings. Given the MoLo’s location, configuration, and integrated service functions, it is well situated within the urban and common fabric, making it permeable, both physically and visually, favoring interactions and social connections within public and private areas of the project due to its accessible and fluid spaces.
